Bleaching
Since the late 1800's dentists have been whitening teeth by various forms of the agent hydrogen peroxide. The peroxides used in the past were of a watery consistency and could only be used in an office setting.
Some years ago, a new form of peroxide was developed called carbamide peroxide (CP). It is most often used in the form of a gel, placed into a special laboratory fabricated custom fit tray that is worn anywhere from one to four hours a day per treatment. When it comes in contact with the teeth, the carbamide peroxide releases oxygen, and that is what releases the stain on your teeth. This should only be done under the supervision of a doctor and a common side effect is sensitivity which usually disappears after the treatments have stopped.
When will you be able to see results? That depends on many factors such as the product used, method, and intensity of the preexisting stains or discoloration's you want to brighten.

Composite resin is a tooth colored plastic mixture filled with glass (silicon dioxide). The key benefit of composites is aesthetics (How you look and feel about yourself).
Composites have a slightly higher rate of wear than traditional silver fillings, but with proper care, a bonded restoration should last five to ten years, or more, before requiring a touch-up or replacement.
As with your normal teeth, cosmetically bonded teeth may chip or stain. Chewing on ice, your fingernails, hard candy and other harsh items should be avoided. It is advisable to watch your intake of staining substances such as coffee, tea, cola, red wine and tobacco as well. With regular and professional cleanings, your composite fillings should look and feel wonderful for years.
Implants
Implants are metal posts surgically inserted into the jaw bone to replace a tooth roots. The metal posts are then used to support the fabricated tooth or bridge that is going to placed into the mouth to rebuild a certain part of a patients smile.
Recovery time varies on a case by case basis, on average an implant set into the lower jaw takes about 3 to 4 months to heal to the implant, an implant in the upper jaw can take upwards of 6 months on average.
Implants are expensive comparative to traditional methods restorative dentistry, mostly due to the surgical phase of the treatment, and the final restoration is more involved to fit to the implant. Implants overall can tend to be longer lasting, maintenance free and more conservative to the surrounding teeth. Visit the Nobel Biocare web site for further info or email us.
